Sound Health and Wellness is a primary care and functional medicine practice that provides you with the most comprehensive healthcare that cares for the WHOLE YOU. We treat adults and children and take your care further beyond primary care to do a root cause analysis with advanced testing and detailed analysis where necessary. We provide quality client care through partnership with you in a provider-client therapeutic relationship to create individualized care and treatment strategies tailored to your needs. Our functional medicine approach allows for prevention of illnesses, including health coaching on nutrition and lifestyle modification to help you develop and maintain skills that serve you for a lifetime to improve your overall wellness and well-being.

Our practice is primarily intended to provide care for those without healthcare providers in the London, Ontario and surrounding area. We also support clients with healthcare providers looking to receive care more quickly or also interested in a functional (holistic) approach to their care. We collaborate with your other care providers as part of your care team.

We provide -

• Same/Next day appointments. 
• Virtual or house calls and virtual walk-in visits (in-person/clinic visits coming soon).
• Acute episodic and chronic disease management.
• Physical assessment (at applicable visits), diagnosing and prescribing medications, medication refills, ordering and interpreting blood work, ordering diagnostic imaging.
• Referral to other healthcare providers/specialists as may be necessary.
• Functional lab testing ordering, interpretation and treatment recommendations.

Nurse Practitioners are not funded by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and therefore can not bill OHIP for services provided or receive reimbursement from OHIP in any form. Sound Health and Wellness bills the client on a pay-per-use basis for consultation, service and time.   

• All standard laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging are covered under OHIP. Your health card number will be required. Clients are never charged for services covered by OHIP.
• Advanced functional lab tests are not covered by OHIP and will be an additional charge to you.
• We accept ONLY debit or credit card payments at this time through online appointment booking.  
• Visits are charged at $65 CAD per person per 30-minute virtual visit and $180 per person per 60-minute home visit (house call).
• Receipts can be provided if needed.
• If you have secondary health insurance, an itemized description of care can be provided for submission under nursing services. You may be eligible for some reimbursement, which may vary by insurance providers. We do not process payment with any insurance provider at this time.

Primary health care appointments

• Episodic health visit: visits for specific/acute symptoms or identified medical conditions. This visit is intended as a one-time encounter where no ongoing care relationship is established.

• Ongoing care visit:  visits for ongoing management of chronic health conditions for clients where an ongoing provider-client relationship is intended. 

• Diabetes Home Care visit:  visits for diabetes-specific care. An ongoing provider-client relationship may be intended for ongoing care per client's preference. Visits may include a variety of other services. Learn more..

Functional Lab Testing

• GI-MAP STOOL TEST - Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus (GI-MAP) is an innovative clinical tool that measures gastrointestinal microbiota DNA from a single stool sample to detect microbes that may be disturbing normal microbial balance or contributing to illness as well as indicators of digestion, absorption, inflammation, and immune function. GI-MAP quantifies bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites using quantitative PCR technology.
• DUTCH TESTS - Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) tests provides a complete evaluation of sex and adrenal hormones including metabolites to give a complete picture of your hormonal state of health and also important organic acids.

Through our Metabolic Reset Program, a 10-week lifestyle coaching program, you get support to improve your gut health, balance your hormones, increase energy, improve sleep, lose weight and keep it off, regulate your blood glucose, your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

•  What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is the science of creating health by optimizing the body systems through a food-first approach to create an environment that is conducive for self-healing. When the body systems are optimized, disease goes away as a side effect. 

• Who is a nurse practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced university education who provides personalized quality health care to clients. Nurse practitioners are registered nurses in the extended class who have met additional education, experience, and exam requirements set by the College. They are authorized to diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests. NPs can also prescribe medications and other treatments. 

• Why do I have to pay for my visit?  

Nurse Practitioners are not funded by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and therefore can not bill OHIP for services provided or receive reimbursement from OHIP in any form. Clients are charged a pay-per-use basis for consultation, service, time and supplies in some cases. All OHIP covered services are FREE- routine labs, imaging

• Do I need to book another appointment to review my lab and other test results?  

No. Each consultation/appointment includes the visit, necessary assessments as possible depending on the type of visit (virtual or in-person at home), lab testing/imaging and result review and treatment and or follow-up steps. You will receive a written or audio or video review of your lab and imaging results with necessary follow-up steps or scripts faxed to your pharmacy on file. However, should you have any questions or would like to have discussions, you will need to book a new appointment. Note that your result will be reviewed in detail in the written/audio/video review.
